Project:
A 3D cycling experience in Unreal Engine, controlled by Garmin smart training devices, features new Porvoo cycling routes. Created to aid Porvoo city planners and politicians in deciding on new infrastructure, the project is part of the EU Interreg BSR funded BATS project to promote year-round walking and cycling.

Client testimonial:
“This is it! Huge thank you for all the design, programming, and development work you have put into this project! Well done! A special shout out to the 3D visualisation team, the environment has already caused jaw drops.”
Simo Syrman, Project Manager, The City of Porvoo
The City of Porvoo needed an effective way to demonstrate various cycling infrastructure options. This was to inform development, allow decision-makers and citizens to experience routes, and gather meaningful feedback before construction began.
We combined a virtual 3D model of central Porvoo with physical Garmin smart cycling devices. This setup allows decision-makers to realistically experience and evaluate new bike route alternatives (across the Porvoonjoki River or along Mannerheiminkatu) in both summer and winter conditions to inform future urban planning.
Located in Porvoo, the simulator combines a physical bicycle frame and Garmin smart training devices with a high-performance PC and a large curved display for testing and experiencing.
The City of Porvoo now has a virtual platform that lets the City Council, traffic planners, journalists and residents see proposed infrastructure in action before anything gets built. The result is a more transparent, informed approach to how the city plans its future traffic solutions.
